- The Bloomington
Old-Time Music and Dance Group dances each Wednesday and also on
the 5th Saturdays of the months that have them. In addition to their regular dance schedule, they sponsor Sugar
Hill in Bloomington, a dance weekend in mid-late August and they hold an annual informal dance weekend in April in Bloomington called Mad Robin Romp. Renamed spring dance weekend (January 31, 2012)
- The DanceFlurry Organization promotes Saratoga area contra dances in Saratoga Springs, New York on (generally fourth) Saturdays from September to June. Rich Futyma

- McGee's Irish Pub in Anderson, South Carolina sponsors a contra dance on the 2nd Saturday of each month. New entry (January 21, 2012)
- The Cape Fear Contra Dancers hold dances on the 2nd Saturday (usually) of each month and on 2nd and 4th Tuesday nights all in Wilmington, North Carolina. In addition, they hold the Bogue Banks Boogie at the end of each year in PIne Knolls Shores. Added mention of Bogue Banks Boogie (January 21, 2012)
- Scandinavian: Idaho, Boise: The Scandinavian Society of Southwestern Idaho dances on the 3rd Friday of each month. Live music. New entry (January 21, 2012)
- The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia sponsors a variety of classes and workshops each year. Change in URL (January 21, 2012)
- Friends of Acoustic Music is located in the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State
and among their activities sponsor contra dances on the 3rd Saturday
of each month and on the 1st Wednesday of each month at Whitman College. Kathy Howard supports the page. Change of URL (Januar 21, 2012)
- The 4th Saturday dance in Amherst, Massachusetts is now called the Fiddlers Green Contra Dance and has a new web site. New entry (January 21, 2012)
- The 4th Saturday dance, previous at the Scout House in Concord, is now at the Friends School in Cambridge (Massachusetts) with Debby Knight, Walter Lenk and friends playing the music and various callers. New entry, change of location (January 20, 2012)
- The Ojai (California) Center for the Arts provides information about the contra dances in Ojai which occur on a variety of Saturdays. Change in URL (January 19, 2012)
- Waltz: Minnesota, Minneapolis: Tapestry Folk Center hosts occasional Mostly Waltz events with live music. (regularly scheduled dance on 4th Sundays starting January 2012) Added mention of 4th Sunday (January 18, 2012)
- The Mid-Missouri Traditional Dancers hold contra dances on the
1st and 3rd and 5th Fridays of the month in Columbia, for the most part from mid-September to mid-June. They host the Spring Breakdown in the spring in March and family dances from time to time. Marcie McGuire supports the page. Change of URLs (January 17, 2012)
- The Boise (Idaho) Contra Dance Society holds dances on the 4th Saturday of each month. Change of date (January 17, 2012)
- There is a 1st Saturday dance series in Port Angeles, Washington at the Black Diamond Community Hall. Change of URL (January 14, 2012)
- Waltz: New York, New York: Dance on various Sundays. Change of date (January 12, 2012)
- The Foothill Country Dancers hold dances in Nevada City on
1st Saturdays and Newcastle (California) on 3rd Saturdays. Change in location (January 9, 2012)
- The Dancing Bears in Anchorage, Alaska are a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of traditional music and
dance in Alaska. In addition to their schedule of dances, they
sponsor the Dancing Bears Dance Camp at Beautiful King's Lake Camp near Wasilla in late May. Change of URL (January 8, 2012)
- The North Texas Traditional Dance Society promotes contra dancing
in the Dallas/Fort
Worth area and hosts dances, mostly contra, with a healthy
smattering of English Country, Square, and folk
mixers thrown in. They dance every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday of the
month and now on the 2nd Friday of the month in Fort Worth . They also hold a festival called When In Doubt,
Swing in early April and a weekend at the end of the year called

- Dave Harvey hosts a barn dance on the 3rd Friday of the month from October to June in Brooklyn. Change of date and location (borough) (December 13, 2011)
- The Ohio edition of the band Contraband includes Mark Barsamian (fiddle), Mark Delozier (piano) and Michael Sisson (bass). The band is available to play at contra dances in the area. (e-mail only) New entry (December 8, 2011)

- Kathy Anderson

- The Scarlet
Runner String Band, now featuring Mike Ross, Dave Langdon, Larry
Johnson, and Brian Hefferen started playing in Lansing, Michigan more
than twenty years ago and continue to play at dances in the area. New entry (December 5, 2011)
- While Chris Page originally learned to dance and call in Glenside, Philadelphia, he now lives and calls in the San Diego area. New entry (December 5, 2011)
- Bob Walser is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and calls contras and squares and along with playing squeezebox, guitar, banjo and piano for contras and squares. New entry (November 28, 2011)
- Contredanse, a novel by Kenneth Cohen, includes contra dance events as part of the novel's background. New entry (November 28, 2011)
- The Santa Barbara Country
Dance holds dances on Sundays. In addition, they are a co-sponsor of
the Annual Sprung Floor Dance Festival in Santa Barbara in late May and the Harvest Moon Festival in Santa Barbara in late September. Gary Shapiro handles the web duties. Updated date information (November 28, 2011)
- Dana Parkinson is a contra dancer turned contra caller in St. Petersburg, Florida. New entry (November 16, 2011)
- Dances occur in San Marcos, Texas on the afternoon of the 4th Sunday of the month. New entry (November 16, 2011)
- Out on a Whim are Bill Fischer and Mickey Koth, a Connecticut duo that play for family and contra dances as well as for special events. Change of URL (November 12, 2011)
- The Boston area based Nor'easter with Cedar Stanistreet, Max Newman and Julie Vallimont with Eric McDonald and Loren Bienvenu was formed in spring 2008 and plays a high energy blend of music from many styles, including Irish, Scottish, New England, French-Canadian, and old-time. - Based in New Hampshire, Northern Spy includes Thal Aylward, Rick Barrows, Rachel Clark, Carol Compton, Alan Graham, Bill Shepard, Mary Jo Slattery, Andy Stewart and plays at the 2nd Saturday dance in Norwich, Vermont. Change from e-mail to URL (November 12, 2011)
- Deck Nieforth makes

- The Lamprey River Band plays regularly in New Hampshire and

- Get Reel is a
Rhode Island based band that plays Traditional Southern tunes for
contra dancing--with some spice throughout New England and includes
Howie Bursen on banjo, Martin Grosswendt on fiddle, Marie Malchodi on

- Frigate is a band from
Maine playing traditional and Americana music with Irish, Scots, and

- Kerry Elkin has been of one of New England's finest dance fiddlers for the past 30 years and has performed with Childsplay, Wild Asparagus, Fresh Fish, and The Geese in the Bog, as well as being featured in small ensembles with musicians such as Mark Roberts, Laurel Martin, Dave Surette, and Mark Simos. Kerry's music has been enjoyed throughout the United States, Ireland and Sweden in dance halls, pubs and music festivals. He passed away on August 22, 2009. Martha's Vineyard Times obituary. - The Falmouth Fiddlers used to sponsor a contra dance on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and still play together in concert and in sessions. Change of URL (November 11, 2011)

- There is series of "traditional" contra dances in Montpelier, Vermont on various 4th Saturdays at the Capitol City Grange on Northfield Road (Hwy. 12), Montpelier (1/2 mile south of Montpelier) with dances beginning at 8:00 PM. New entry (November 7, 2011)
- The village dances in Dummerston, Vermont happen several times a year, generally on the 3rd Saturday of the month. (e-mail

- The Milford (New Hampshire) Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors contra dances on the 4th Friday of each month. Change of URL (November 5, 2011)
- The dance series in Westford, Massachusetts, sponsored by the Parish Center for the Arts, occurs on the 4th Saturday of each non-summer month. Change of URL (November 5, 2011)
- In addition to the 4th Saturday dances mentioned above, there are

- The Western Foothills Land Trust sponsors dances on the 5th Saturday of the month (for those months that have them) in Norway, Maine. New entry (November 5, 2011)
- The dances at Simonton Corners in Rockport, Maine occur on the 4th Saturday of each month with a variety of callers and musicians. Change of URL (November 5, 2011)
- Ed Pearlman plays fiddle music, particularly that of Scotland and Cape Breton for over 30 years and occasionally plays at a contra dance. He is based in Maine. New entry (November 5, 2011)
- Neil Pearlman, from Maine, plays with the contra dance band, Groove Train, and also plays traditional Scottish music with Latin, Funk and Jazz influences. New entry (November 5, 2011)
- The dances in Blue Hill, Maine on the 2nd Friday of the month at the Emlan Hall at the Bay School have been running nonstop since 1975, the longest-running contradance in Maine. The dances start at 8:00pm. Information: (207) 374-2159. Change in date and location (November 1, 2011)
- The College of the Atlantic hosts contra dances in Bar Harbor, Maine on the 1st Saturday of the month. Check the press releases and calendar for future dances (although sometimes the press releases are not released; the dance continues and at least you can get directions to the 8pm dance at Gates Auditorium). - Essays: John Walters writes about Bob McQuillen as part of his book, Roads Less Traveled: Visionary New England Lives. He also provides selected excerpts of his interview with Bob McQuillen in 2007 and a radio story from 2002, plus an article about his visit to the dance in Nelson, New Hampshire in 2006.
