Athens: The Arts Center contra dances continue on the schedule below. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students and kids A walk-through lesson is offered at 7:00 PM and the dance is from 7:30-10:30 PM each night. Location: Sue E. Trotter Theater at The Arts Center, 320 North White St. What if I don't have a partner? No problem. Many people come to a contra dance alone. Chattanooga: Dances at the All Saints Academy, 310 East 8th St. with a 7:30 pm contra dance intro for newcomers. 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Contra Dance with live music. Admission: $8.00 Adults / $5.00 Students. No dance experience or partner needed! Come alone or with friends and family. Jonesborough: The Historic Jonesborough Dance Society hold community dances on (generally) the first and third Saturdays every month in the auditorium of the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center at 117 Boone Street. Our dances are open to the public and feature live music in a smoke and alcohol free environment. No experience is necessary. Each dance is taught by the caller for the evening. You do not have to bring a partner. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Snacks and beverages are for sale in the visitors center. There is a beginners workshop from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. The dance will run from 7:30pm to 10:30pm with a country waltz and Klondike Bar break at 9:00pm. No partner is necessary and all dances are taught by the caller. Knoxville: The Knoxville Country Dancers hold dances every Monday night from 8 to 11 pm at the Laurel Theater, 1538 Laurel Ave. Beginners are welcome; no experience or partner required. Admission is $7 ($3 for students) at the door. (If you come in after the break, please pay $3.) You can burn a lot of energy on the dance floor, so we recommend you wear loose fitting comfortable clothing with layers that you can remove. Lebanon - Breakin' Up Winter: The Nashville Old-Time String Band Association sponsors the annual music retreat at beautiful Cedars of Lebanon State Park outside Nashville, Tennessee, a gathering of old-time music lovers from around the country who come to learn, jam, dance, sing, hike, eat, and just sit round talking about the music we all love. Maryville - ContrAddiction: Special day of dancing at the Chilhowee Club, Cates St & Clarion Ave. Brought to You by Knoxville Contra Dance from Noon Ð 9:45 pm. Memphis: Dances are held every first, third and fifth Friday in the Fellowship Hall of Idlewild Presbyterian Church at 1750 Union Ave. in Midtown Memphis. The dances begin promptly at 7:30 PM and end by 10:00 PM. Usually there is a learner's Session at 7:00 PM before the dance. All are welcome, come singly, in couples or in groups. Beginners are welcome. All dances are taught and called. No costumes are involved. There is no admission fee, but our wonderful band plays for tips only, and we request that everyone contribute. Morristown - Mountain Makins Festival: Dance is part of this multi-event (music, dance, crafts, road race, storytelling) held in late October. Nashville: Dances are held at the Second Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall, 3511 Belmont Boulevard. Contra dances are held Friday nights at 8:00 pm with free lessons for beginners at 7:30 pm (unless otherwise noted on dance schedule). We usually take a short break around 9:00 pm and continue dancing until 10:30 pm, so be sure to stick around for all the fun! No partner required. Admission fees: Adults - $7.00; Children, students, and 65+ - $5.00 (unless otherwise noted). Bring soft-soled, non-marking shoes for dancing. No high heels or cowboy boots, please. Shelbyville - Flat Creek: Dances are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. (see map). This is a very family-oriented dance with a large contingent of teenagers. Jim and Inge and anybody else with an acoustic instrument who wants to join in the fun provide the live music (which usually means fifteen to thirty local pickers). If you are in the area, please join us to dance or play or just to listen. Flat Creek Community Center is just off Highway 82 seven miles south of Shelbyville.
