Lincoln: The Lincoln Association for the Traditional Arts sponsors dances on the first Saturday of every month and take place at the Auld Pavilion in Antelope Park (1650 Memorial Drive). Doors open at 7:30pm, there's a lesson at 7:45pm, dancing begins at 8:00pm and ends at 10:00pm. No pre-arranged partners are required for this old-fashioned barn dance and the fun is guaranteed! Live music accompanies the dance, courtesy of several local dance enthusiasts who have formed a band. Callers will direct you through the steps, which are simple and easy to learn. Omaha: Contra Dance Omaha sponsors contras on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 7:30pm to 10:30pm with Scandinavian dance preceding each contra dance at 6:30pm at the Seymour Elementary School, 4900 S. 79th Street in Ralston. The Scandinavian dance before each contra concentrates on "bygdedans." "Bygdedans" refers to the oldest surviving folk dances from Scandinavia, some surviving in unbroken tradition from the Middle Ages to today. Singles & new dancers are welcome. All dances are taught or walked through beforehand! Please wear soft-soled, non-scuffing shoes. Cost is $6 per person, students half price, children under 12 free if supervised by parent!
