Admission is $5 with a non-Caltech student ID, and $10 for everyone else. Contra dancing is an aerobic activity, so wear something that you can move around in and don't mind getting a bit sweaty. T-shirts and shorts or twirly skirts are typical, but anything comfortable is fine (if you wear a very twirly skirt, you may want to wear shorts underneath). Water is provided, but you may want to bring your own water bottle for convenience. Shoes should have non-marking soles, and any heels should be short and thick. Sneakers are perfectly fine, but some dancers prefer soles with a little bit less traction. I personally like character shoes. Info: Emma Wollman (ewollman at caltech dot edu). This page is part of the Contrdancelinks.com web site. For more information about contra dancing, visit these other site pages:
*The Colorado link will bring you to Dancing on the Web. The Iowa link will bring you to the Central Iowa Barn Dance Association. The Maine link will bring you to the Downeast Friends of the Folk Arts. The New Mexico link will bring you to the New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society. The Utah link will bring you to Utah Contradance Information. These fine organizations and individuals already have complete listings for these states and there is no reason for me to duplicate their efforts.
**As far as I know, there are no regular dances or events in Louisiana, Mississippi, South Dakota or Wyoming, but I have created pages if something changes in the future.
