Consider this to be only a very small step in building a contra dance music database. What follows is a list of the CDs that I own that I consider to fall in within the very broad definition of "contra dance music". The emphasis will be on bands and musicians that play at contra dances. I will exclude items such as any possible salsa CD by KGB or sitar music by Wild Asparagus, but will probably list some CDs that contain some tunes that are played at contra dances but by artists who do not play at contra dances (so groups that play Quebecois, old-time, and jigs and reels may end up on the list to show how these tunes carry over from one genre to another (examples might include Ernie Carpenter or Natalie MacMaster if enough tunes on a particular CD also are played on contra dance CDs)). After putting together a fuller list (now well over 700), I plan on working on listing individual tunes, composers, and musicians. I suspect that that won't happen for quite some time. A few more CDs added since March. I have not accomplished much work on the entire database, but it is moving along, however slowly. (December 2, 2007)
