Dear friends of the Medway Contra Dance,
Sadly, our little dance will be folding this year after 22 seasons. We invite you to celebrate with us at our Farewell Dance on Saturday, May 4 from 7:30-10:30 at Christ Episcopal Church. The band Jumpstart will provide live music and our caller will be Laura Winslow. We will have fabulous food and wonderful dancing. If you would like to contribute to the feast, please contact Maria Roberts at mariadebern@gmail.com
We will not hold the June dance as originally planned.
Why close the dance? Over the past few years our attendance has been declining. While we continue to attract many loyal and enthusiastic dancers, it's just not enough to keep the dance going financially. We are grateful to all who have supported the dance over the years, especially Bob Golder, who encouraged us in our infancy, and more recently Cal Howard for his advice and Paul Wilde who has talked up the dance around Eastern Massachusetts. In addition, we'd like to say a special thank-you to the bands who have returned year after year, especially Dandelion Wine, White Squall, Jeff Kaufman's groups, such as the Free Raisins, and Smoke and Mirrors, which has played at least two dances every year for the past decade.
We hope to fill the hall with many dancing feet on May 4th, so whether you are a regular or a dancer we haven't seen in years, please join us for our "last waltz."
We would also like to announce that you will have one more opportunity to dance in Medway on Saturday, June 1, when Paul Wilde will call and host a dance to benefit NEFFA and CDSS. We will have great musicians and lots of lively dancing. Former Medway callers are welcome to come. More later!
You're invited to a lively evening of dancing. It's fun, informal & easy! Beginners are always welcome; the caller will lead you through each dance. Come alone or with friends. See you there!
Admission is $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for teens, and kids 12 and under free. Season passes available for $65, which is convenient and you help to support the dance!
